Step | Action |
| Power off the printer. |
| Lift the printer and any other feed options up off the 2000-sheet feeder option. CAUTION! For safety reasons, it is recommended that at least two people lift the printer. |
| Move the 2000-sheet feeder to a location where you can work on it. |
| Open the front door and remove the two screws holding it (refer to the picture below). |
| Hold the door while slightly prying off the left side cover. This allows for easy removal of the front door. |
| Remove the left side cover and locate the circuit board. It is found towards the front of the feeder, on your right-hand side (see the area highlighted in the image below). |
| Check the blue/black wire cable going into J9 on the control card. Make sure the cable is plugged in all the way. IMPORTANT! If the cable is off, be sure to plug the cable back onto the correct terminal, leaving the terminal below J9 unused. |
| If the cable was loose, you can choose to remove the toroid in order to reduce the chances of this issue arising again. NOTE: The toroid is not essential. In some later versions of the 2000 sheet feeder, the toroid on the J9 cable has already been removed. |
| While you have the left side cover off, also make sure the power cable is plugged in all the way. It is located toward the back of the feeder, on your left-hand side (see the area highlighted in the image below). A loose power cable within the 2000-sheet feeder can also cause the printer to display a 982 or a 990 error. |
| Once finished, reinstall the left side cover and the front door (reverse steps 4 and 5). NOTE: You may need to adjust the location of the hinges for proper door alignment. |
| Reinstall the printer and other feed options back on top of the 2000-sheet feeder option. Make sure the printer and all options are seated securely. CAUTION! For safety reasons, please obtain help when lifting the printer. |
| Power the printer back on and try printing again. |
| If the issue continues, the 2000-sheet feeder option may require service. Please contact your next level of support for more information or see the 'Other Possible Causes' section below. |
