"201" type paper jam errors when printing on narrow media

Background

"Narrow Media" is defin ed as paper or other print media having a width less than 170 mm (6.7 inches). Due to the jam detection method the printer uses, narrow media can stop feeding through the printer and cause a 201 Paper Jam message to appear. In almost all such cases, the error code number will end in a 2 or a 4 (for example: 201.02, 201.04, 201.12, 201.14).To find a resolution for this issue, please carry out the procedures below.

Test the printer with a standard size of plain paper

If you are printing on narrow media stock, replace it with standard Letter, Legal or A4 size paper. Try printing again with this standard size paper loaded in the tray.

  • If&nbsp ;you continue to receive the Paper Jam error with standard size paper, service may be required to correct the issue. For more information about clearing a 201 Paper Jam, 201 or 201.xx Paper Jam Error on a Lexmark T64x Series Printer. See the Additional Assistance section at the end of this document for information on contacting Lexmark service or support.
  • If the printer prints the standard size pages without error, the source of the error will be with the type of narrow media stock being used. Printing on a wider size of media will fix this issue. However, if you need to print on the narrow media stock, you will need to disable the jam detection function on the tray. Follow the directions in Disable the jam detection function below.

Audience:

Cause of the error

Accordion Jam Detection is a hardware (fuser unit) and software (engine code) function that halts the feeding of media that has jammed on one or more of the hot roll detect fingers and covered the fuser exit sensor. This prevents “fan fold” or accordion jams from continuing to feed into the rear of the fuser, thus allowing the customer to remove the jam. Because the Accordion Jam Detection function utilizes the narrow media sensor, Acco rdion Jam Detection cannot be enabled for printing on narrow media (media less than 165 mm or 6.5 inches wide). Printing on narrow media while Accordion Jam Detection is enabled will result in a false 201 Paper Jam message.
