Lexmark Forms Printer 2580n+

How to set/change the 'Tear Off' position

Background

When the Auto Tear Off setting is set to On, the printer will move the top perforation on a continuous form to the 'Tear Off' position when all of the following are true:

  • The printer has finished printing.
  • The paper has advanced to the top of the form of the next page.
  • No data, printer control codes, or escape codes are sent to the printer after the printer advances the page to the top of the next page.
  • The print buffer has not received data for one second or more.

How to set/change the 'Tear Off' position

To set or change the 'Tear Off' position, follow these steps:

Step

Action

1

Press the Start/Stop button once in order to take the printer offline.

2

Press and hold the Tear Off button until the printer beeps. If done correctly, the 'busy' indicator light should begin to blink.

3

Open the control panel cover in order to access the second layer underneath.

4

Press the Micro up or Micro down button to move the paper to the desired tear off position.

5

Once the paper is in the correct position, close the control panel cover. If the procedure is done correctly, the printer will beep twice. The paper will roll backwards a little, then reset to the new 'tear off' position.

6

Press the Start/Stop button once to bring the printer back online and to the 'ready' state.

7

Try printing again. Confirm that the tear off position is set to the desired location and that printer functions correctly.

NOTE: The paper should remain at the current 'tear off' position until you send another job to the printer. At that time, the paper should move from the 'tear off' position to the top of the form, and begin printing.
