Replacing the toner cartridge

Issue description

This article includes instructions to remove or replace the toner cartridge.

It is recommended to order a new toner cartridge when the Toner Low message appears, or when you begin to experience faded print. You can continue to use the existing toner cartridge after the Toner Low message appears. However, the print quality will begin to deteriorate as the toner level decreases further.

Solution

  1. Press the button on the left side of the printer to release and lower the front door.

  2. Remove the toner cartridge.

  3. Press the release button on the base of the photoconductor unit.

  4. Grasp the handle on the toner cartridge. Pull up and out to remove the toner cartridge.

Note:  The photoconductor unit will remain in the printer.

  5. Unpack the new toner cartridge.

Note:  You can use the packing material from the new toner cartridge to ship the old toner cartridge back to Lexmark for recycling. Please click here visit our recycle web site and follow the instructions provided.

  6. Lightly shake the toner cartridge in all directions to distribute the toner evenly.

  7. Install the new toner cartridge. Do this by aligning the white rollers on the toner cartridge with the white arrows on the tracks of the photoconductor unit and pushing the toner cartridge in as far as it will go. The cartridge will click into place when correctly installed.

  8. Close the front door.

  9. Send a print job to the printer or print an internal test page in order to confirm that the new toner cartridge is working correctly.
