Vertical streaks check

Overview

Your Multifunction printer (MFP) exhibits vertical streaks on all output jobs from copy, scan, and fax. The streak may appear wide, fuzzy, and/or solid. It occurs on Auto Document feeder (ADF) and the Flatbed (scanner glass) jobs. The defect may move around the page, but it will always be vertical. In some cases, the entire page goes completely black, and cleaning the scanner glass does not address the issue. See the first three examples below:

NOTE: If the toner streak appears sharp and well defined, such as what is shown in the fourthexample above, Vertical lines appear when using the ADF for the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshooting

Action

1

Confirm the issue is caused by the scanner unit and not the base printer. To do this, either:

• Print a sample document from your computer;

- or -

• Print an internal page from the machine; i.e., the menu settings pages.

Note: To print any internal page, press Menu, select Reports, then select any of the choices under Reports.

2

If the line appears when you print these pages, the base printer is causing the issue. Try replacing the Photoconductor (PC) unit and see if it resolves the issue. A contaminated or defective PC unit can cause this type of print-quality issue.

Otherwise, if the line appears only when you are using the scanner unit (scanning or copying), contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.
