New Auto Document Feeder (ADF) Separator Pad for Lexmark X26x, X36x, X46x&X54x Multifunction Printers

A new stress media separator pad has been released for the following product series:

  • Lexmark X26x – X264
  • Lexmark X36x – X363, X364
  • Lexmark X46x – X463, X464, X466
  • Lexmark X54x – X543, X544, X546, X548

The design of this new media separator pad aims to reduce the number of ADF paper jams (e.g., error code 291.01) caused by multi-feeds, especially with media that is difficult to separate (e.g., tri-folded, previously stapled, mixed media types, etc.). See the difference between the old and the new separator pad in the images below:

IMPORTANT! It is still highly recommended to fan the original pages before loading them into the ADF, and to properly adjust the edge guides on the ADF input tray after loading the paper.

How to replace the separator pad

The ADF separator pad is “customer replaceable”. It does not require a service technician to install it. To properly remove the old separator pad, check the step-by-step guide below.

Open the ADF cover.

First remove the separator roll assembly by lifting the locking lever pointed to by the red arrow in the right-hand image.

Slightly lift the separator roll assembly and pull it out of the mount on the opposite side, as shown on the image.

Pinch the two tabs on each side of the separator pad inward.

Tilt the pad up, then lift it out of the ADF assembly.

To install the new separator pad, follow the Steps 1 to 5 in reverse order.
