Troubleshooting
Step | Action |
1 | Power off the printer and pull Tray 5 out. |
2 | Check to see if the paper is loaded into the tray correctly and in a straight stack. If the paper is not loaded correctly, remove it and reload the paper into the paper tray. |
3 | Power the printer on and try printing again. If the error persists, continue to Step 4. Otherwise the issue may have been resolved by properly loading of the paper. |
4 | Remove the paper and look for a metal plate in the bottom of the paper tray. This is the lifter plate. Check for any sort of obstruction in the tray that could prevent the lifter plate from rising. Remove any obstruction you find. Make sure the lifter plate is not crooked or stuck. If it is, see if you can straighten or free the plate. |
5 | If the paper tray appears to be fine or if you were able to fix a problem you found with the tray, reload the paper into the tray and try printing again. - If the error does not return on power up, continue using the printer but observe its operation for about a week.
- If the Tray Failure error continues or if there is a problem with the tray, contact Lexmark Technical Support to have the printer serviced.
