A Blank Touchscreen or Display Panel on the Lexmark X782e Color MFP or X646ef Laser MFPs

Overview

A Blank or Black Display Panel appears on the scanner touch screen and the LED light beside it is either ON or FLASHING. This issue generally results when a printer-originated error message causes a communication error between the Lexmark 4600 Scanner option and the Lexmark T64x or a Lexmark C78x series printer to which the scanner is connected.

Troubleshooting


NOTE:
The images in the table below show the Lexmark X646ef model. However, these directions also apply to the Lexmark X782e.

Power off the printer/MFP.

Wait for 30 seconds, and then power the printer/MFP back on. Does the scanner touch screen power on?

Yes: Print and scan a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer/MFP. Observe it for the next few days to see if the issue returns.No: Continue to Step 3 or go to Contacting Lexmark for information.


NOTE:
If you have already tried powering the printer off and on, skip ahead to Step 3.

Power off the printer and scanner unit and unplug the power cord.

Remove the white cables from the printer and scanner. Check the cable connections and inspect the pin for any damage, if any parts appear damaged, a service call will likely be required to resolve the issue. See 'Contacting Lexmark' for information.

If possible, connect the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet. Power on the printer again. Does an error code display on the printer's operator panel?

Yes: Enter the specific error code in the problem search field on the Technical Support page, and then follow the directions for resolving the specific error messages.
NOTE:
If the error message on the printer's operator panel says "PCI Bridge Failure" skip ahead to Step 6.No: If printer's operator panel is blank, continue to 'Contacting Lexmark' for information.


NOTE:
For the X646ef series, if the printer’s operator panel is covered, please remove the cover and check the status of the display. Under normal operation, the printer's operator panel should be off. Only the GreenLED should be lit. Click here to show an image.

Reconnect the white cables from the printer and scanner. Ensure that the connector is seated fully before proceeding to tighten the two screws completely. Then power on the printer/MFP. Does the scanner touch screen power on?

Yes: Print and scan a test page. If the page prints, continue normal use of the printer/MFP. Issue is resolved.
NOTE:
If an error message appears, enter the specific error code in the problem search field on the Technical Support page, and then follow the directions for resolving the specific error messages. No: A service call may be required. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance


NOTE:
A flat-head screwdriver or a coin are ideal implements for completely tightening the screws.
