How to properly clean the glass on the flatbed scanner

Overview

This article outlines the proper procedure for cleaning the glass on the flatbed scanner of an X4600 series scanner. Following these instructions will reduce the risk of damaging the glass and the scanner. Clean the scanner glass at least once a month as part of routine maintenance to help maintain optimal print quality. In addition, it is recommended that you try cleaning the glass anytime you notice streaks or other print quality problems occurring with your scans.

Procedure

  1. Power off the scanner unit.

  2. Open the scanner cover.

  3. Moisten a clean lint-free cloth or paper towel with an ammonia-free, deionized glass cleaner.

    CAUTION! Do not spray the cleaner or any liquids directly onto the flatbed scanner glass or backing material. In addition, do not clean the glass or backing material with any sort of alcohol or with solvents other than glass cleaner.

  4. Carefully wipe the surfaces of the flatbed scanner glass (A), the automatic document feed scanner glass (B), and the backing material (C).

  5. Allow a few seconds for the surfaces to dry.

  6. Close the scanner cover and power the scanner unit back on.

When contacting Lexmark, you will need the scanner's model type and serial number (SN). This information can be found on a sticker located on the back of the scanner.
