Recommended Service Actions for `843.01 Scanner Service Failure? Error Message on the Lexmark 4600 Scanner, Lexmark X646ef Printer, or a Lexmark X782e Printer

Overview

If an ‘843.01 Scanner Service Failure’ error message appears on your printer/MFP, a service call will probably be required, especially if the following caused the issue.

• The ADF form feeder to motor/distribution cable is loose/unplugged. • The plastic sensor flag actuator is broken inside the paper feed assembly.

However, certain rare occurrences, such as a power fluctuation or a static discharge in the vicinity of the printer/MFP, can cause a false ‘843.01 Scanner Service Failure’ error message. In such cases, the error is only temporary and can be easily resolved without service. The following steps will help you determine if a service call will be required.

What You Will See

When you power on the Lexmark 4600 Scanner option connected to Lexmark T64x or a Lexmark C78x Series Printer, you will see an 843.01 Scanner Service Failure on the scanner display.

This step is especially important if the 843.01 errors occur intermittently. Power strips and uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) can generate false 843.01 errors. This is true even if the printer has previously worked on this surge device.
