Types of Paper to Avoid When Using the Automatic Document Feeder on the X4600 Scanner

This article describes the types of paper that should be avoided when using the Automatic Document Feed (ADF) mechanism of an X4600 series scanner.

Types of paper to avoid

Certain types of paper may not feed properly through the ADF. Use the glass flatbed part of the scanner to scan damaged paper or paper with the following attributes:

  • - Multiple sheets of paper attached to each other with a clip, staple, or other device
  • - Paper with inconsistent thickness, such as envelopes
  • - Paper with wrinkles, curls, folds, or tears
  • - Traci ng paper, coated paper, or carbonless paper
  • - Paper that is too large or too small for the ADF feed tray
  • - Items other than papers, such as cloth
  • - Notched paper
  • - Paper with an odd (non-rectangular) shape
  • - Photographic paper
  • - Paper with perforations on the side
  • - Very thin paper
NOTE: Avoid scanning any of the following:
  • - Paper that is wet or has ink that is not completely dry. Doing so may leave marks or streaks on the flatbed scanner glass.
  • - Any metallic or similar items that can damage or scratch the flatbed scanner glass.
