Grinding/clicking noise on printer first startup

Issue description

A grinding or clicking noise is coming from the toner cartridge/developer in a new printer.

It is possible that the clicking noise goes away without intervention, but this could be caused by parts breaking in the developer.

In this case, the printer will eventually develop light vertical streaks.

Solution

  1. Open Door B.

    • For single-function printers
    • For multifunction products
  2. Remove the affected toner cartridge.

  3. Lightly shake the toner cartridge in all directions and place the toner cartridge back into the printer.

  4. Perform a print test and check if the noise still occurs.

    • A possible developer damage could occur if the toner cartridge runs with noise for too long.
    • If the grinding or clicking noise does happen, open the door to quickly to stop the printer.
