Printer not printing black

Issue description

The print quality depicts no black printing, no grayscale for the most part, only solid color (cyan, magenta, and yellow).

The color prints have no shading and will not appear light but solid or dark in nature unlike if the printer is only missing the black plane.

Note:  Refer to the Missing one full color plane on the printout check for additional information on this particular print quality issue.

Solution

Note:  Make sure the printer is powered OFF and unplugged before proceeding.

  1. Open Door B.

    • For single-function printers
    • For multifunction products
  2. Remove the Waste Toner Bottle (WTB).

  3. Unplug the green cable.

  4. Remove the imaging kit. Pull the unit out of the device and set on flat surface.

  5. Check the inside of the printer and press the imaging units rear contact and make sure it springs back out.

Note:  Make sure not to touch the transfer belt when checking the spring.

  6. Reinstall the imaging kit and plug in the green cable.

  7. Insert the waste toner bottle then close Door A and Door B.

    • If the issue occurred upon a new install, replace the color (CMY) imaging kit.
  8. Perform a test print and check if the issue persists.
