Before you begin
Make sure that the following prerequisites are met:
- Computer and printer are connected to the same network.
- Java is at version 5 Update 51 or higher.
- Browser is up to date (for example, Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, Safari, or Google Chrome
- Pop‑ups are allowed
- NPAPI plug‑ins are enabled
- Printer firmware is up to date
- Printer IP address is added on the Java Exception Site List
- Proxy exceptions are added if a network proxy is set
Check Java version:
Open any web browser.
Go to the Java website to verify the Java version.
Click Agree and Continue.
Note: If authentication is required, fill out user name and password, and then click OK.
If this pop‑up displays, click Run.
Note: The page automatically refreshes and detects your browser’s Java version.
Ensure you have Java version 7 Update 51 or higher. If not, click Download Java Now to obtain the latest version.
Check Browser version:
Open your preferred web browser.
Navigate to your browser menu ‑ typically found on the upper right corner of the page.
Click About and make sure that the version is up to date. Here is an example from Google Chrome.
Allow Pop‑ups
By default, most web browsers prevent pop‑ups from automatically appearing and cluttering your screen. When a pop‑up blocker is on and a pop‑up is blocked, the address bar shows this icon.
Navigate to your web browser’s privacy settings and find options to allow sites to show pop ups.
On Google Chrome, the path follows: Settings > Show advanced settings > Privacy > Content Settings > Pop‑ups > Allow all sites to show pop‑ups > Done.
Enable NPAPI plug‑ins:
Launch your preferred web browser.
Type chrome://flags/#enable-npapi on the address bar, and then press Enter.
Click the Enable link under the Enable NPAPI flag.
Click Relaunch Now found on the bottom-left corner of the page.
Check Firmware version:
Perform either of the following options:
- Using the printer Control Panel – On the printer, press Menu > Reports > Menu Settings Page.
- Using the EWS – Access the printer's EWS, go to Reports > Device Settings.

Add printer IP on Java Exception Site List:
For Windows systems:
Click the Start button, and then type configure java.
Click Configure Java.
Click the Security tab.
Click Edit Site List, and then click Add.
Type http://<printer's IP address>, and then click Add.
If this pop-up displays, click Continue, and then click OK.
The printer's IP address shows on the Exception Site List.
For Macintosh systems:
Click the Apple symbol, and then go to System Preferences.
Click Java found on the bottom-left corner of the menu.
Click the Security tab.
Click Edit Site List, and then click Add.
Type http://<printer's IP address>, and then click Add.
If this pop-up displays, click Continue, and then click OK.
The printer's IP address shows on the Exception Site List.
Add Proxy Exceptions:
HTTP protocol uses port 80, while HTTPS protocol uses port 443. Please contact your system administrators to modify proxy settings.
