281.16 Error when paper is tapped on the ADF top cover

Issue description

The printer won't pick the paper from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and a 281.16 error appears on the printer display.

Note:  This issue happens only on multifunction printers.

Possible cause

When level setting the papers by squaring or tapping them up on the ADF top cover, the vertical force on the top cover causes the ADF pick arm to drop.

Solution

Opening the ADF top cover and closing it afterwards fixes the issue.

Note:  Do not tap paper on the top of the scanner.
