How to Set a "Dial Prefix" on a Laser MFP


Consider this procedure if you observe the following symptoms:

  • You are unable to send a fax.
  • You are behind a PABX and unable to send a fax.
  • You do not hear any dial tones when connecting a standard phone to the phone line.
  • 902 "No Dial Tone Present" errors display on the the transmission log or job call log.

If you are unsure whether or not you require a dial prefix, please contact your IT support desk or phone system administrator.

How to Set a Dial Prefixon the MFP

Method 1: Control panel

This method is preferred if the device is not on the network.

  1. Click on the MENU button.

  2. Click the down-arrow and click on SETTINGS when visible.

  3. Click on the FAX SETTINGS.


  5. Click on FAX SEND SETTINGS.

  6. Click on the down-arrow until DIAL PREFIX is visible.

  7. Enter the necessary value.

  8. Click on SUBMIT.

IMPORTANT: You may need to enter additional pauses into the dial prefix in certain environments. Again, see if your phone system administrator for additional assistance.

Method 2: Embedded web server

This method is preferred if the device is on the network and you are not near the machine.

  1. Obtain the printer's TCP/IP address.

  2. Open your web browser.

  3. In the URL field, type http://<MFP_IP_ADDRESS>, where IP_ADDRESS is the TCP/IP address of the printer.

  4. Click on SETTINGS.

  5. Click on FAX SETTINGS.

  6. Click on ANALOG FAX SETUP.

  7. Scroll down to DIAL PREFIX located under FAX SEND SETTINGS.

  8. Enter the necessary value.

  9. Click on SUBMIT.
