Poor Color and Black Halftone Quality in 1200 Dots-per-Inch (dpi) and 4800 Color Quality (CQ) Using a Lexmark C792/X792 Printer MFP

Overview

This document outlines the troubleshooting steps to consider when poor quality results in printing images, especially in color and black halftones.

Troubleshooting

StepAction

1

Identify whether the printer supports the print media you are using. If you are printing on specialty paper, try using plain copy paper. Try this even if the media that you are using worked in the past in order to eliminate it as the cause of the problem. Specialty papers (i.e., letterhead stock, textured paper, label stock, and card stock) can lead to print quality issues such as this.

2

Check whether the toner cartridge is running low on toner or has been damaged. Do this by printing the Device Statistics page.

• If toner level is still in good condition, remove the toner from the printer and manually inspect it for any signs of damage that may cause it to leak. If no damage, proceed with the next step. Otherwise, contact Lexmark Technical Support and seek eligibility for toner replacement.

• If the toner level is already low, replace it with a genuine Lexmark toner cartridge and see whether the print quality improves.

3

Initiate a Manual Calibration on the printer. To do this:

1. Press the Menu

button on the operator panel.2. Scroll down and select Settings.3. Press Printer Settings.4. Select Quality.5. Press Color Adjust.

If issue persists, contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.
