Lexmark C74x&X74x ? Unable to Open the Printer?s Front Door (Front Door Locked) when the Printer Is Powered Off

What you will see

The printer's front door stays locked when the machine is powered off.

Possible cause

The printer’s front door locks during certain “Busy” events (i.e., calibrating or printing) and unlocks when those events are complete. This is a normal function. If, however, the printer is powered off or posts an error during the event where the door is locked, the printer cannot complete its event cycle. The front door, therefore, stays locked and will not open.

Recommended solution

If the printer was interrupted by powering it off during a “Busy” event, the door should unlock by restarting the machine following the sequence below:

StepAction
1

Power the printer off.

2

Wait for 15 seconds and power the printer on again.

3

Wait until “Ready” displays on the operator panel and then try to open the door.

IMPORTANT! If the printer was interrupted by an error message during a “Busy” event, then the front door will not unlock if that error still exists when the machine is restarted. The error will prevent the printer from completing its POST cycle. In that case, attend to the error first, if it only requires intervention; i.e., refilling paper. Otherwise, contact Lexmark Technical Support to get assistance in addressing the error.
