1 | Power the printer/MFP off completely and disconnect the power cable from its power supply. |
2 | For the Lexmark C74x Color Laser Printer: - Open the Front Door Assembly.
For the Lexmark X74x Color Laser Multi Function Printer: - Open the MFP Top Access Cover.
- Then open the Front Door Assembly.
Warning—Potential Damage: To avoid overexposing the photoconductor units, do not leave the front door open for more than ten minutes. CAUTION—HOT SURFACE! The inside of the printer/MFP might be hot. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool before touching it. |

Note: If you find any piece of paper or other obstruction, gently remove it. Be sure all paper fragments are removed. If a fragment is not visible or the paper is lodged too tightly under the Photoconductor Units, then you may need to remove the Photoconductor Units.

4 | To remove each of the Photoconductor Units, lift the right-end handle of the photoconductor unit (1), releasing from it from the mount. Then lift the unit up and away from the left side of printer/MFP (2), ensuring that the left end of the photoconductor is released from the holding pin. | | Click Image to Enlarge | Click Image to Enlarge |
Warning—Potential Damage: To avoid damaging the photoconductor drum, hold the photoconductor units by their handles and place each of the photoconductor units on a clean surface. Never expose the photoconductor units to light for a prolonged period of time. Place a clean, dry cloth over the transfer module and photoconductor units until they are required again. Also be careful not to touch the photoconductor drum. Doing so may affect the print quality of future print jobs. |
5 | Check for any broken or loose parts on the Photoconductor Units. Note: If damage exists, a service call will likely be required to resolve the issue.

6 | Remove the jammed paper. Note: If you are not able to find any obstruction or if one is found and cannot be removed, remove the Transfer Belt Module (TBM) and proceed with the steps below. (See Step 8 for TBM removal.)

7 | Check for any piece of paper or other obstruction that is stuck under the Transfer Belt Module (TBM). Note: If you find any piece of paper or other obstruction, gently remove it. Be sure all paper fragments are removed. If a fragment is not visible or the paper is lodged too tightly under the Transfer Belt Module (TBM), then you may need to remove the TBM.

8 | To remove the Transfer Belt Module (TBM), (1) disconnect first the Transfer Module Cable. Then (2) press the two tabs to release the Front Access Cover Assembly. Press the (3) two tabs on either side of the Transfer Belt Module (TBM), and lift it out. Note: Place the Transfer Belt Module (TBM) on a flat clean surface.

9 | Check for any broken or loose parts on the Transfer Belt Module (TBM). If damage exists, a service call will likely be required to resolve the issue. |
10 | You should be able to remove the paper jam. While clearing the jam, be sure to remove all debris and paper fragments. |
11 | Re-install or reassemble the Transfer Belt Module (TBM) and the Photoconductor Units in reverse order. |
12 | Close all doors and covers completely. Connect the power cable to its power supply and power on the printer/MFP. |
13 | When loading the paper back onto the tray, confirm that the paper/media is properly loaded and the paper guides in the tray are set in the correct position. There should be no gaps between the paper stack and the guides. In addition, make sure the top of the paper stack is below the max fill line. |
14 | Be sure the media tray is not overfilled. Also check, clean, or replace the pick rolls for wear and excess contamination. Then test the printer/MFP with plain copy paper. |
