C925 / X925: 30.xx Missing [Color] Cartridge and/or [Color] Imaging Unit

Overview

This article outlines troubleshooting a ‘30.xx Missing [color] cartridge and/or [color] imaging unit’ error.

What you will see

The printer/MFP may post one of four different variations of the ‘30.xx Missing [color] cartridge and/or [color] imaging unit’ error message, depending on the color of the toner cartridge or imaging unit that is prompting the error. The number 30.xx in the error message is common to all four toner cartridge or imaging units, while the [color] value (i.e.,

Cyan

, Magenta, Yellow, Black) indicates which toner cartridge or imaging unit specifically is causing the message. The error message displays either intermittently or continuously on the printer/MFP during printing or during the power-up sequence.

Possible Cause

In most cases, the ‘30.xx Missing [color] cartridge and/or [color] imaging unit’ error appears only when the contacts of the cartridge, image unit, and the printer/MFP do not touch or are contaminated. It is also best to first identify whether you are using a genuine Lexmark toner and image unit before proceeding with the steps below.

Troubleshooting

StepsAction
1Power off your printer/MFP.
2Verify that all four toner cartridges and all four imaging units are indeed present and correctly installed in your printer/MFP.
3If all the toner cartridges and imaging units are present, remove the color print unit (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, or Black) indicated in the error message.
4Verify that the part number for your toner cartridge and imaging unit is supported in a Lexmark C925 or X925 printer/MFP.

5If all the toner cartridges and imaging units’ part numbers are correct for the Lexmark C925 or X925 printer/MFP, check for any toner build-up or debris around the toner contact/chip that may be causing this issue.

Note:
While a small amount of loose toner build-up or debris in your printer/MFP is completely normal, an excessive amount may lead to a possible '30.xx Missing [color] cartridge and/or [color] imaging unit' error message. In addition, a heavy build-up of toner may affect the mechanical aspects of the printer/MFP, thus causing other issues such as print quality, etc.

6Remove and reinstall the specified toner cartridge or imaging unit. Power on the machine to see if the error persists.

Note:
If the problem is still there after you have completed all the procedures above, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.
